YouTube is removing its Trending Page—the section that showcased the most trending videos on the platform—after 10 years, a feature that first launched in 2015. The company claims that over the past five years, the number of visitors to the Trending Page has significantly declined because people have started discovering content through various other sections of the platform. YouTube also stated that moving forward, users will be able to find the most popular YouTube videos in specific categories through YouTube Charts. Let’s understand this in detail.
Shutting Down After 10 Years
According to a blog post on Google’s YouTube Help page, the video-streaming platform is retiring the Trending Page and its “Trending Now” list nearly 10 years after their introduction in 2015. The company explained that due to changes in user behavior, audience visits to the Trending Page have dropped sharply over the last five years. The blog highlighted that users now discover trending content in many ways—through short videos, comments, community recommendations, and search suggestions.
How YouTube Will Highlight Trending Content
In the blog post, YouTube mentioned that in the future, audiences will be able to explore popular content in multiple categories via YouTube Charts. However, it’s important to note that YouTube Charts are currently available only for YouTube Music. According to the post, users will be able to explore trending music videos, weekly top podcast shows, and trending movie trailers. Over time, the company will expand Charts to include more content categories. Trending gaming videos, however, will continue to be featured on the YouTube Gaming Explore Page.
A New Way for Users to Benefit
Beyond YouTube Charts, the company will also provide personalized recommendations for videos. YouTube claims this will allow them to present a wider range of popular content tailored to different audiences. Additionally, users will still be able to discover non-personalized content through the Explore page, specific creators’ channels, and their subscription feeds.
Creators have long used the Trending Page to promote their channels, boost the rankings of their latest videos across social media platforms, and stay updated with the latest trends to shape their content strategies. YouTube reassured that the Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio will continue to offer creators personalized content ideas.
