AI company Hugging Face has taken a big leap into the world of robotics by launching two new open-source humanoid robots — HopeJR and Reachy Mini.

The most notable thing about these robots is that they are extremely affordable and designed for everyday people. According to a report from TechCrunch, the company’s goal is to make robotics accessible to the masses.

HopeJR – Humanoid Robot

HopeJR is a full-sized humanoid robot with 66 degrees of freedom — meaning it can move in 66 different ways. It can walk, grab objects, and even shake hands.

The most surprising part is its price: just $3,000 (around ₹2.5 lakh), far cheaper than most competitors. For comparison, Tesla’s Optimus Gen 2 costs over $20,000, while Unitree’s G1 is priced at $16,000.

Reachy Mini – Desktop Robot

Reachy Mini is a small desktop robot priced between $250 and $300 (₹21,000–₹25,000). It can move its head, talk, and listen. It’s designed for testing AI applications.

This robot is especially useful for developers and educational institutions interested in experimenting with AI.

Open-Source Technology

Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue says the biggest highlight is that these robots are open-source. This means anyone can assemble them, rebuild them, and understand how they work.

The company’s aim is to prevent the robotics field from being dominated by just a handful of big corporations. The first units are expected to ship by the end of 2025.

This initiative marks an important step toward making robotics more accessible to the general public. Now, it remains to be seen how much demand these robots will generate in the Indian market.
